Amlodipine calcium channel blocker for hypertension and angina with 24-hour control.
Amodip contains Amlodipine, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits calcium ion influx through L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac myocytes. This results in peripheral arterial vasodilation, reduced afterload, and decreased myocardial oxygen demand. Amlodipine's long half-life provides consistent 24-hour blood pressure control with once-daily dosing and gradual onset minimizes reflex tachycardia and peripheral edema compared to shorter-acting calcium channel blockers.
Purpose
Treatment of essential hypertension to reduce blood pressure and cardiovascular risk, coronary artery disease, chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's angina), reduction of heart attack and stroke risk.

Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 5mg
Warnings
Long-term treatment typically required - continue even when feeling well. Do not discontinue abruptly without medical consultation. Avoid grapefruit juice - increases drug levels and side effects. Use caution with hepatic impairment. May cause dizziness affecting driving ability. Edema is dose-related. Not for acute heart failure. Inform doctor if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Prescription medicine.
Side Effects
Peripheral edema (ankle/foot swelling), dizziness, flushing, headache, fatigue, palpitations, nausea, abdominal pain. Less common: increased urination, visual disturbances, gingival hyperplasia with long-term use.
