Benzathine benzylpenicillin 1.2 million units injection for streptococcal infections.
Benzibiotic (1.2 Million Unit) is benzathine benzylpenicillin, a long-acting penicillin injection for the treatment of streptococcal infections (e.g. pharyngitis, rheumatic fever prophylaxis) and syphilis. Administered by deep intramuscular injection only; not for IV use.
Purpose
Treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis; secondary prevention of rheumatic fever; treatment of syphilis when prescribed.
Ingredients
Benzathine benzylpenicillin 1.2 million units per injection.
Warnings
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitivity. Administer only by trained personnel. Have adrenaline available for anaphylaxis. Not for IV use.
Side Effects
Pain at injection site, allergic reactions including anaphylaxis. Rare: procaine reaction if procaine penicillin is confused. Report rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Storage Instructions
Store in refrigerator (2–8°C). Protect from light. Use before expiry. Allow to reach room temperature before injection.
