Amlodipine-valsartan combination with moderate CCB and standard ARB dose for balanced blood pressure control.
Biforge 5/160mg combines moderate-dose Amlodipine 5mg with standard-dose Valsartan 160mg, providing balanced dual-mechanism antihypertensive therapy. This combination is often used as step-up therapy from monotherapy or as an alternative to 10/80mg for patients requiring greater ARB effect relative to CCB effect. The 5/160mg strength may reduce peripheral edema risk compared to higher amlodipine doses while maintaining effective blood pressure control through robust angiotensin II receptor blockade.
Purpose
Treatment of essential hypertension, add-on therapy when monotherapy provides inadequate control, substitution therapy for patients taking separate components, reduction of cardiovascular risk.

Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 5mg, Valsartan 160mg
Warnings
FETAL TOXICITY - discontinue when pregnancy detected. Can cause fetal injury/death. Contraindicated in pregnancy, severe hepatic impairment, biliary obstruction. Symptomatic hypotension possible in volume-depleted patients. Use caution with renal artery stenosis. Monitor renal function and serum potassium, especially in elderly and renal impairment. Avoid with aliskiren in diabetic patients. Drug interactions with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. May worsen angina or precipitate MI rarely. Prescription medicine.
Side Effects
Dizziness, headache, peripheral edema (less common than with higher amlodipine doses), fatigue, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory infection. Less common: hypotension, hyperkalemia, renal impairment.
Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature between 15-30°C. Protect from moisture and light. Keep in original blister packaging. Store out of reach of children.
