Cefico capsules contain Cefixime, a broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic demonstrating potent activity against gram-negative bacteria including many resistant strains. Purpose

Treatment of bacterial infections: uncomplicated urinary tract infections, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, otitis media, uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral), acute sinusitis.

Warnings

Contraindicated in cephalosporin allergy. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergies (~10%). Not effective against viral infections. Complete full course to prevent antibiotic resistance. May cause antibiotic-associated diarrhea - inform doctor if severe or bloody diarrhea occurs. Dose adjustment required for renal impairment (CrCl <60 mL/min). May cause false-positive glucose tests. Pregnancy category B. Use only for bacterial infections. Prescription antibiotic.

Side Effects

Diarrhea (most common, 16%), nausea, loose stools, abdominal pain, vomiting, dyspepsia, flatulence, headache. Serious but rare: C. difficile-associated diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, interstitial nephritis.
