Empagliflozin/metformin XR for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular benefit.
Diajard Forte XR combines Empagliflozin 25mg (SGLT2 inhibitor) and Metformin 1000mg extended-release for type 2 diabetes. Empagliflozin lowers glucose via the kidneys; metformin reduces hepatic glucose and improves insulin sensitivity.
Purpose
Type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise; reduction of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established CVD when applicable.
Ingredients
Empagliflozin 25mg, Metformin Hydrochloride 1000mg (extended-release)
Warnings
Not for type 1 diabetes or DKA. Lactic acidosis risk with metformin. Avoid if eGFR below 45. Discontinue before contrast and in acute illness. Prescription only.
Side Effects
UTI, genital mycotic infection, volume depletion, lactic acidosis (metformin). Rare: DKA, acute kidney injury.
