Sitagliptin and metformin combination for type 2 diabetes when single therapy is insufficient.
Diampa M combines sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) and metformin to lower blood sugar in type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin increases insulin release in response to meals; metformin reduces liver glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Used when dual therapy is needed for glycaemic control.
Purpose
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise plus metformin or sitagliptin alone do not achieve adequate glycaemic control.
Ingredients
Sitagliptin (as phosphate) and metformin hydrochloride per tablet; strengths as per approved formulation.
Warnings
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis, and type 1 diabetes. Assess renal function before and during treatment. Discontinue before iodinated contrast procedures if indicated. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulphonylurea. Lactic acidosis (rare), pancreatitis (rare); report severe abdominal pain.
