Emsyn Met combines Empagliflozin 12.5mg (SGLT2 inhibitor) and Metformin 500mg for type 2 diabetes. It improves glycaemic control through renal glucose excretion and reduced hepatic glucose production.

Purpose

Type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise when dual therapy is indicated.

Warnings

Not for type 1 diabetes or DKA. Lactic acidosis risk. Avoid if eGFR below 45. Prescription only.

Side Effects

UTI, genital mycotic infection, volume depletion, lactic acidosis (metformin). Rare: DKA.
