Lantus Solostar is a prefilled pen containing insulin glargine (rDNA origin), a long-acting basal insulin. It provides steady, peakless insulin action over approximately 24 hours. Used for type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Inject subcutaneously once daily at the same time each day. Refrigerate until first use; after first use may be kept at room temperature for up to 28 days.

Purpose

Treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus to control blood glucose.

Ingredients

Insulin glargine (rDNA origin) 100 units per mL. Each Solostar pen contains 3 mL (300 units).

Warnings

Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect. Do not use in hypoglycemic episodes. Rotate injection sites to reduce lipodystrophy. Do not share pen between patients. Check cartridge before each injection.

Side Effects

Hypoglycemia, injection site reactions, weight gain, lipodystrophy. Allergic reactions rare.

Storage Instructions

Refrigerate at 2-8C until first use. Do not freeze. After first use, may be stored at room temperature (below 25C) for up to 28 days. Protect from direct heat and light. Do not refrigerate after first use.
