Sodium picosulfate is chemically bisodic salt of 4-4''''(2-Picoliliden) - bis (-Phenylsulphuric acid). It acts as a local laxative, metabolized by the colonic bacteria to the active compound bis (P-hydroxyphenyl) pyridyl-2-methane, which stimulate the mucosa of the large intestine & causing colonic peristalsis. Sodium picosulfate is usually effective within 10–14 hours .
