Methotrexate tablets for rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriasis.
Methix SL contains methotrexate, an antimetabolite that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase and has immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory effects. It is used for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and other autoimmune conditions. Regular monitoring of blood counts, liver and kidney function is required. It can cause serious side effects including bone marrow suppression and liver toxicity.
Purpose
Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriasis; disease-modifying therapy.
Ingredients
Methotrexate (as sodium salt or equivalent) per tablet; strength as per pack.
Warnings
Contraindicated in pregnancy; causes birth defects. Avoid in severe liver or kidney disease. Do not take daily; weekly dosing only as prescribed. Folic acid supplementation often recommended.
Side Effects
Nausea, mouth ulcers, hair thinning, liver enzyme elevation, bone marrow suppression, lung toxicity. Requires regular monitoring.
