Pioglitazone and metformin 15/500mg for type 2 diabetes.
Piozer Plus (15/500mg) combines pioglitazone (thiazolidinedione) and metformin for type 2 diabetes. Pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity; metformin reduces hepatic glucose output. Used when dual therapy is needed for glycaemic control. Take as directed with meals.
Purpose
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus as adjunct to diet and exercise when dual therapy is appropriate.
Ingredients
Pioglitazone 15mg and metformin hydrochloride 500mg per tablet.
Warnings
Contraindicated in severe heart failure and severe hepatic impairment. Risk of lactic acidosis with metformin. Not for type 1 diabetes. Monitor for oedema and bladder cancer risk.
Side Effects
Oedema, weight gain, headache, hypoglycaemia when combined with insulin or sulphonylurea. Pioglitazone may increase risk of bladder cancer and fractures. Report swelling, blood in urine, or bone pain.
Storage Instructions
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Keep in original pack; protect from moisture.
