Sitagliptin and metformin XR once-daily combination for type 2 diabetes. Prescription only.
Sitaglu Met XR combines sitagliptin and extended-release metformin for type 2 diabetes. Taken once daily, it provides 24-hour metformin release plus DPP-4 inhibition to improve glycaemic control when dual therapy is needed. Swallow whole; do not crush or split.
Purpose
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise plus metformin or sitagliptin alone do not achieve adequate glycaemic control.
Ingredients
Sitagliptin (as phosphate) and metformin hydrochloride (extended-release); strengths as per approved formulation (e.g. 50mg/1000mg per tablet).
Warnings
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR below 30), diabetic ketoacidosis, and type 1 diabetes. Assess renal function before and during treatment. Discontinue before iodinated contrast if indicated. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulphonylurea. Lactic acidosis (rare), pancreatitis (rare). Report severe abdominal pain.
