Sodium picosulphate which is a stool softening laxative taken orally.It is metabolized by the colonic bacteria to the active compund which stimulates the mucosa of the latge intestine , causing peristalsis . It is usually effective 6-12 hours.

Warnings
Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance and hypokalaemia and may precipitate onset of rebound constipation.
Not to be taken by children under 10 years without medical advice.
As with all laxatives , sodium picosulfate oral solution is advised to not be taken on a continuous daily basis for long periods .
Side Effects
GI upset , proctalgia , dry mouth , headache , thirst , fatigue , sleep disorder.
