Its anticholinergic action exerts a smooth-muscle relaxing/spasmolytic effect. Blockade of the muscarinic receptors in the GI tract is the basis for its use in the treatment of abdominal pain secondary to cramping. Hyoscine butylbromide also binds to nicotinic receptors, which induces a ganglion-blocking effect.

Also use with caution in case of GERD.
Use with caution in cardiac insufficiency.
It may cause constipation.
Side Effects
Constipation , transient bradycardia (followed by tachycardia , palpitation and arrhythmias) , reduced bronchial secretions , urinary urgency and retention, dilatation of the pupils with loss of accomodation .
