Ursodeoxycholic acid 500mg capsules for primary biliary cholangitis and cholesterol gallstone dissolution.
Urso 500mg contains ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), a bile acid used to treat certain liver and gallbladder conditions. It is indicated for primary biliary cholangitis (when the liver still functions), dissolution of cholesterol gallstones in selected patients, and liver disease associated with cystic fibrosis in children.
Purpose
Treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC); dissolution of radiolucent cholesterol gallstones in a functioning gallbladder; liver disease associated with cystic fibrosis (in children, as approved).
Ingredients
Ursodeoxycholic acid 500mg per capsule.
Warnings
Contraindicated in acute inflammation of gallbladder or bile ducts, non-functioning gallbladder, calcified gallstones, complete biliary obstruction, and hypersensitivity to UDCA. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment. Liver function must be monitored.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, pruritus, nausea, abdominal pain, gallstone calcification. Rarely, worsening of liver disease or decompensation; regular liver function monitoring required.
