Viptin Met combines vildagliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor) and metformin for type 2 diabetes. Vildagliptin increases insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent way; metformin reduces liver glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Used when dual therapy is needed for glycaemic control.
Purpose
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise plus metformin or vildagliptin alone do not achieve adequate glycaemic control.
Ingredients
Vildagliptin and metformin hydrochloride; strengths as per approved formulation (e.g. 50mg/850mg per tablet).
Warnings
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes, and severe hepatic impairment. Assess renal function before and during treatment. Discontinue before iodinated contrast if indicated. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, headache, dizziness, hypoglycaemia when used with sulphonylurea or insulin. Lactic acidosis (rare); pancreatitis (rare). Report severe or persistent abdominal pain.
