Scabrid Cream (30g) is a topical scabicidal and antiparasitic medication containing permethrin, formulated for the eradication of Sarcoptes scabiei infestations. It operates by disrupting the sodium channel current across the nerve cell membranes of the parasites, delaying repolarization and causing prolonged activation of the channels. This neurotoxic influx induces a state of continuous nervous hyperexcitation, resulting in generalized incoordination, neuromuscular paralysis, and the eventual death of both the adult mites and their ova.

Purpose

To treat infestations of Sarcoptes scabiei (scabies) and provide relief from associated nocturnal pruritus.

Warnings

For external topical use only; apply thoroughly from the neck down to the soles of the feet, paying close attention to interdigital spaces. Leave the cream on the skin for 8 to 14 hours before washing off completely with warm water to ensure maximum eradication. All close household contacts should undergo concurrent treatment simultaneously to prevent cycles of re-infestation. Thoroughly launder all recently used bedding, clothing, and towels in hot water (~60°C) and dry them using high heat.

Side Effects

Temporary localized skin adjustments including transient stinging, mild burning, or intensified itching immediately following application. Dermatological signs such as mild erythema, localized swelling, numbness, tingling, or minor skin rashes. Persistent pruritus post-treatment, which is a normal immunological reaction to the dead mites and does not automatically signal treatment failure. Rare allergic contact sensitivity reactions including localized hives or significant skin irritation in hyper-reactive individuals.
