Semaglutide binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor, augmenting glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing inappropriate postprandial glucagon release, and significantly delaying gastric emptying. Centrally, it targets the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus to decrease food cravings, suppress appetite, and prolong satiety to induce a sustained caloric deficit.

Purpose

It is indicated as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults and eligible pediatric patients with obesity or overweight accompanied by weight-related comorbidities.

Warnings

- Do not use this medication if you or any family members have ever been diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).\n- Discontinue use immediately and seek emergency medical evaluation if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain radiating to your back, as this may indicate acute pancreatitis.\n- Administer the injection once weekly on the same day each week, subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, and never inject into a vein or muscle.

Side Effects

- You are likely to experience gastrointestinal side effects including noticeable nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or localized abdominal pain.\n- Some individuals report minor bouts of constipation, regular bloating, or generalized dyspepsia during initial dose titration.\n- Dehydration caused by ongoing vomiting or diarrhea can temporarily elevate your risk of acute kidney injury.

Storage Instructions

Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze, and keep the pre-filled pen inside its original carton to protect it from light. Keep out of reach of children.
