Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract, ear, skin and soft tissue infections. It works by stopping bacteria from producing the proteins they need to grow and multiply. Its long half-life allows for shorter treatment courses compared to many other antibiotics. The full course should be completed as prescribed to prevent resistance.
