Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that fights a broad range of bacteria responsible for common infections. It works by blocking the enzymes bacteria need to copy their DNA, which stops them from multiplying and allows the immune system to clear the infection. It is commonly prescribed for urinary, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal infections. Treatment should be completed in full even if symptoms improve early.
