Dafo 5mg contains Dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose, allowing excess sugar to be excreted through urine, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Dafo is typically prescribed alongside diet and exercise for adults with type 2 diabetes. It may also offer cardiovascular and renal benefits in certain patients.

Warnings
Prescription medicine; not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment, dehydration or recurrent urinary tract infections. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor of all other medications, especially insulin or sulfonylureas, due to hypoglycemia risk.
Side Effects
Common side effects include urinary tract infections, genital fungal infections, increased urination and thirst. Less commonly, it may cause dehydration, low blood pressure or hypoglycemia when combined with other diabetes medicines. Rarely, ketoacidosis has been reported even with normal blood sugar levels.
